Exodus 14Then Yahweh said to Mosheh, “Why are you crying out to me? Speak to the children of Yisra‘el and move on, and then lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea, and break it open, and the children of Yisra‘el shall come out into the middle of the sea on the dried up land. As for me, see, I am hardening the heart of Egypt and they will come after them, and I will get myself glory in all Pharaoh's force, in his chariotry and his riders. Then Egypt will know that indeed I am Yahweh in getting myself glory in Pharaoh, in his chariotry and his riders”.
Then the messenger of God moved on, going to the front of the camp of Yisra‘el and coming from behind them, and the pillar of cloud moved back from in front of them and piled up behind them, and it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Yisra‘el, and the cloud was there and the darkness, but it also gave light in the night and the one could not approach the other all the night.
So Mosheh stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove back the sea with a mighty east wind all the night, and he made the sea into dried up land, and the waters were torn open. Then the children of Yisra‘el went in the middle of the sea on the dried up land, and the waters were for them a wall to their right hand and to their left.
But Egypt pursued, and they came after them, all the horse of Pharaoh, his chariotry and his riders, into the middle of the sea. Then it was the morning watch, and Yahweh looked down onto the camp of Egypt in the pillar of fire and cloud, and made confusion within the camp of Egypt, and he buckled the wheels of the chariots and caused them to twist heavily. Then Egypt said, “Move away from the face of Yisra‘el, for Yahweh fights for them in Egypt”. Then Yahweh said to Mosheh, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, and the waters will return upon Egypt, upon his chariotry and his riders”. So Mosheh stretched out his hand over the waters, and the sea returned in the face of the morning to its steady flow. But Egypt was moving to meet it, and Yahweh shook Egypt off into the middle of the sea. Then the waters returned and covered the chariotry and the riders, to all the force of Pharaoh going after them in the sea, none being left over among them, not even one, but the children of Yisra‘el went on the dried up land in the middle of the sea, and the waters were for them a wall to their right hand and to their left.
So Yahweh delivered Yisra‘el in that day from the hand of Egypt, and Yisra‘el saw Egypt dead upon the margin of the sea, and Yisra‘el saw the mighty hand which Yahweh established in Egypt, so the people feared Yahweh and trusted in Yahweh and in Mosheh his servant.
