Genesis 14:13-24 - Abram and Malkiy-tsedeq

And one came, a fugitive, and explained to Abram the ‘Ibriy, and he was settled among the oak trees of Mamre the Emoriy, brother of Eshkol and brother of ‘Aner, and they were lords in covenant with Abram. wayyâbô’ happâlîyt wayyaggêd le’abrâm hâ‘ibrîy wehû’ shôkhên be’êlônêy mamrê’ hâ’emôrîy ’achîy ’eshkôl wa’achîy ‘ânêr wehêm ba‘alêy berîyth-’abrâm
14. Then Abram heard that taken captive was his brother, and he led out his trained men born in his house, eighteen and three hundred, and he pursued as far as Dan. wayyishema‘ ’abrâm kîy nishebâh ’âchîyw wayyâreq ’eth-chanîykhîyw yelîydêy bêythôw shemônâ ‘âsâr ûshelôsh mê’ôth wayyiredôph ‘ad-dân
15. So he divided them at night, he and his servants, and he struck them and he pursued them as far as Chobah, which is north of Dammaseq, wayyêchâlêq ‘alêyhem laylâh hû’ wa‘abâdâyw wayyakkêm wayyirdephêm ‘ad-chôbâh ’asher missemô’l ledammâseq
16. and he returned with all the goods. So also Lot his brother and his goods he brought back, and even the women and the kindred. wayyâsheb ’êth kol-hârekhush wegam ’eth-lôwt ’âchîyw ûrekhushôw hêshîyb wegam ’eth-hannâshîym we’eth-hâ‘âm
17. Then came the king of Çedom to speak publicly to him, after his return from the strike against Kedorla'omer and the kings who were with him, to the Valley Shaweh, also called the Valley of Kings, wayyêtsê’ melekh-çedôm liqerâ’thôw ’acharêy shûbôw mêhakkôwth ’eth-kedârelâ‘ômer we’eth-hammelâkhîym ’asher ’ittôw ’el-‘êmeq shâwêh hû’ ‘êmeq hammelekh
18. and Malki-tsedeq, king of Shalem, brought out bread and wine, and he was priest of El Elyon, ûmalekîy-tsedeq melekh shâlêm hôwtsîy’ lechem wâyâyin wehû’ khôhên le’êl ‘elyôwn
19. and he blessed him, saying,
“Blessed is Abram to El ‘Elyon,
creator of the skies and the earth.
wayebârekhêhû wayyô’mer
bârûkh ’abrâm le’êl ‘elyôwn
qônêh shâmayim wâ’ârets
20. And blessed is El ‘Elyon
who has delivered up your enemies into your hand.”
Then he gave to him a tenth part of the whole.
ûbârûkh ’êl ‘elyôwn
asher-miggên tsâreykhâ beyâdekhâ
wayyitten-lôw ma‘asêr mikkol
21. Then the king of Çedom said to Abram, “Give to me the living, but the goods, take for yourself”. wayyô’mer melekh-çedôm ’el-’abrâm ten-lîy hannephesh wehârekhush qach-lâkh
22. But Abram said to the king of Çedom, “I raised my hand to Yahweh El ‘Elyon, creator of the skies and the earth: wayyô’mer ’abrâm ’el-melekh çedôm harimôthîy yâdîy ’el-YHVH ’êl ‘elyôwn qônêh shâmayim wâ’ârets
23. surely nothing, from a thread to the thong of a sandal, I will take from all that is yours, and never shall you say, ‘It was I enriched Abram’. ’im-michût we‘ad serôwkh-na‘al we’im-’eqqach mikhol-’asher-lâkh welô’ thô’mar ’anîy he‘esharetîy ’eth-’abrâm
24. Except for the little which the young men have eaten, and the division for the men who came with me - ‘Aner, Eshkol and Mamre - these men, let them take their division”. bil‘âday raq ’asher ’âkhelû hanne‘ârîym wechêleq hâ’anâshîym ’asher hâlekhû ’ittîy ‘ânêr ’eshkôl ûmamrê’ hêm yiqechû cheleqâm
