lamnatstsêach lîydyôthun
mizemôwr ledawid
2. I said, “I will guard my choices
from going astray at my tongue.
I will guard my mouth with a muzzle
while yet the wicked are in my sight”.
’âmartîy ’eshmerâh derâkhay
mêchatôw’ bileshôwnîy
’eshmerâh lepîy macheçôwm
be‘ôd râshâ‘ lenegedîy
3. I bound myself up in resignation, abstaining from goodness,
so my pain was stirred up.
ne’elametîy dûmîyyâh hecheshêythîy mittôwb
ûkhe’êbîy ne‘kâr
4. Hot was my heart in my inner self, in my musing burned fire:
I put words to my tongue,
cham-libbîy beqirebîy bahagîygîy thib‘ar-’êsh
dibbaretîy bileshôwnîy
5. “Make me know, Yahweh, my ending,
and the extent of my days - what is that?
I would know how fleeting am I.
hôwdîy‘ênîy YHVH qitstsîy
ûmiddath yâmay mah-hîy’
’êde‘âh meh-châdêl ’ânîy
6. See now, hand-breadths you gave as my days
and my world is as nothing in your sight”.
Surely all inconsequential, all of Adam's monuments, · Çelah
hinneh tephâchôwth nâthattâh yâmay
wecheledîy khe’ayin negedekhâ
’akh kol-hebel kol-’âdâm nitstsâb çelâh
7. surely mere semblance, the affairs of man,
surely inconsequential flustering:
one heaps together, but does not know who will gather.
’akh-betselem yithhallekh-’îysh
’akh-hebel yehemâyûn
yitsebôr welô’-yêda‘ mîy-’ôçephâm
8. Yet now, what do I long to look for, Adonay?
my hope: it waits for you.
we‘attâh mah-qqiwwîythîy ’adônây
tôwchaletîy lekhâ hîy’
9. From all my rebellion, tear me away,
the reproach of a fool do not set against me.
mikkol-peshâ‘ay hatstsîylênîy
cherepath nâbâl ’al-tesîymênîy
10. I bound myself up, never opening my mouth
since you, it is you who devised this.
ne’elametîy lô’ ’ephetach-pîy
kîy ’attâh ‘âsîythâ
11. Lift away from upon me your affliction:
from hostility at your hand I am spent.
hâçêr mê‘âlay nig‘ekhâ
mittigerath yâdekhâ ’anîy kâlîythîy
12. With reproofs against straying you discipline man -
disintegrating like the moth his fancy -
surely inconsequential, all of Adam. · Çelah
bethôwkhâchôwth ‘al-‘âwon yiççaretâ ’îysh
wattemeç kâ‘âsh chamûdôw
’akh hebel kol-’âdâm çelâh
13. “Hear my prayer, Yahweh
and to my plea give ear.
As for my tears, do not be aloof
for a stranger am I with you,
a migrant like all my fathers.
shim‘âh thephillâthîy YHVH
weshaw‘âthîy ha’azîynâh
’el-dim‘âthîy ’al-techerash
kîy gêr ’ânôkhîy ‘immâkh
tôwshâb kekhol-’abôthây
14. Direct your gaze away from me, and I can rekindle
before I go and am no more”
hâsha‘ mimmennîy we’abelîygâh
beterem ’êlêkh we’êynennîy
